San Diego mother reunites with officers who helped save her baby

6-month-old stopped breathing last week

SAN DIEGO - It was an emotional reunion Tuesday as a mother thanked two San Diego police officers who helped save her daughter's life.

Monique Matthews hugged the officers at a news conference saying, "Thank you so much. I appreciate everything you guys did."

She says there are no words to describe the officers' heroic actions. They helped save her 6-month-old daughter Deonni when she suddenly stopped breathing last week.

"Even though I did what I was supposed to do, at some point in time, I did lose it," said Matthews. "I panicked."

A surveillance camera captured Matthews running out of the house carrying her baby. The infant had turned blue and Matthews knew she had no time to waste.

"I just ran over to them and they came and took the baby out of my hands," said Matthews. "I have never been so happy to see police."
