SAN DIEGO  — Firefighters battled an Allied Gardens house fire that caused significant damage Tuesday morning and left a family displaced.

Smoke was seen coming from a house on Orcutt Avenue near 50th Street around 9:40 a.m. when fire personnel arrived and knocked down the blaze by 9:54 a.m.

A woman who lives in the home with her husband and 4-year-old son were not home at the time and no injuries were reported. Still, she said she feels overwhelmed and devastated.

Fire investigators are investigating the cause of the blaze. One fire official told 10News the fire may have been caused by a furnace on the floor.

The family's Christmas presents and son's toys were destroyed, he said, and Red Cross has been called in to help since the residents may be displaced for weeks.

A GoFundMe page was created to for the family at https://www.gofundme.com/helenihi-family-fire-recovery
