SAN DIEGO - Election results show voters rejected initiatives that would have paved the way for medical marijuana dispensaries to open and be taxed in four San Diego County cities.
The measures would have allowed the cities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Lemon Grove and Imperial Beach to permit and regulate the clinics.
Existing laws in all four cities ban medical marijuana clinics.
Legalizing and taxing them received the greatest support in the coastal city of Del Mar, where 44 percent of voters backed Proposition H in Tuesday's election.
U.S. attorney Laura Duffy has been cracking down on dispensaries in the city of San Diego.
Although the San Diego dispensaries are allowed under municipal law, marijuana remains illegal under federal law.
