SAN DIEGO -
San Diegans can receive free emergency gear if they register for the county's "reverse 911" system.
On Thursday, Oct. 4, anyone who registers for AlertSanDiego at one of six local car dealerships will receive an emergency tote that includes:
-- an old-fashioned landline phone (cordless phones won't work if power is out)
-- a hand-crank powered radio with built-in flashlight and cellphone charger
-- emergency first aid kit
-- adult and child comfort kits (includes toothbrush, toothpaste, mild shampoo, soap, washcloths and deodorant)
-- AAA San Diego County map
To receive the tote, visit one of the six participating auto dealers and register your cellphone, VoIP phone or email address with AlertSanDiego.
The participating auto dealers are: Pacific Honda, 4761 Convoy Street, San Diego; Kearny Mesa Hyundai Subaru, 4797 Convoy St., San Diego; Kearny Mesa Infiniti, 4670 Convoy St., San Diego; Kearny Pearson Ford, 7303 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., San Diego; BMW South County, 875 El Cajon Blvd., El Cajon; Toyota Chula Vista, 650 Main St., Chula Vista.
Please note that there are only 800 totes to give away, and the promotion begins at 2 p.m. and lasts until all totes are given out.
