The average price has decreased on 52 of the past 53 days and is 3.8 cents less than one week ago and 39.1 cents lower than one month ago, but 6.9 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has decreased 97.7 cents over the past 53 days, including 1 cent on Thursday. The average price decreased for 48 consecutive days, was unchanged Monday and resumed dropping Tuesday.

"Wholesale prices for California gasoline rose by about 20 cents at the start of the month, but as of Wednesday, the wholesale price dropped to its lowest level since the October spike," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"If that decrease holds, there is plenty of additional room for gasoline prices to fall further in the coming weeks."
