SAN DIEGO - On Dec. 14, San Diegans will be holding a celebrity benefit “For the Love of the Philippines” to raise money for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
San Diego County, with an estimated 150,000 Filipinos, has the second largest population of Filipinos in the continental U.S.

“After seeing the devastation by Super Typhoon Haiyan, we had to do something and many of our friends of all ethnicities want to do something, too,” said Fred Mata, one of the organizers for the benefit.
The group has confirmed appearances by Tribal Theory, American Idol finalist Joshua Ledet, American Idol contestant Marvin Calderon Jr., The Voice Philippines contestant Dave Lamar, the talented Amy Monzon, and more.
In addition, professional skateboarder Willy Santos, world-famous Mixed Martial Arts fighter Dean Lister, Bellator MMA fighter A.J. Matthews of Carlsbad, and Filipino professional boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta have agreed to attend the event.
The event will be held at Moonshine Flats, the Gaslamp’s newest nightclub owned by San Diego entrepreneur Ty Hauter.
Proceeds will benefit both the American Red Cross and San Diego-based non-profit organization, Gawad Kalinga USA.
The Scripps Howard Foundation, Kohl’s and Qualcomm are the first to make generous monetary donations to the benefit.
