San Diegans mark 12-12-12 with weddings, induced births

Next such triple date is Jan. 1, 2101

SAN DIEGO - It's a date that will come along only once in a lifetime, and on Wednesday, some San Diegans celebrated with weddings and even induced labor.

While it was just another December day for most of us, it was a day that will never be forgotten for some new moms and dads at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital.

Little Kimberly Maria is just one of the many babies born on Dec. 12, 2012, or 12-12-12, at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital. Her mother Amanda Savala told 10News, "She's so special, she's so cute."

Several moms asked for C-sections, wanting their child to have a memorable birthday. Natasha Geverola was supposed to have a Christmas baby, but little Alana Noel decided this would be her day.

"I think it makes it even more special, the fact that it's one of those days that never comes around anymore for the next millennium," Geverola said.

Alana's father, Kevin Allen, added, "But, I mean, to have a baby girl on any day is something special in itself, but to have it on 12-12-12 is a trip, it's cool."

Brooke and Gage Wilson from Vista celebrated their 12th birthdays on this 12th day of the 12th month.

Others decided to capitalize on this day with a wedding.

Ruben Casas said he found a once-in-a-lifetime woman and wanted to marry her on a once-in-a-lifetime date.

"I found the perfect woman for myself," Casas said. "I just needed to solidify this and make it official."

But now he has no excuse remembering their anniversary.

Casa said, "I think I would be more surprised if she forgot."

San Diego County officials said more than 109 weddings were performed and marriage licenses were issued to 98 couples on Wednesday.

The county performs marriage ceremonies at the downtown San Diego County Administration Center and branch offices in Chula Vista, El Cajon, Kearny Mesa and San Marcos.

This is the last triple digit date of the century.
