Sabre Springs artist loses work as house burns

SAN DIEGO - An elderly woman and artist lost several sculptures and paintings when a fire broke out at her Sabre Springs home late Thursday night.

The fire was reported at 10:50 p.m. at 12329 Briardale Way. San Diego and Poway firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the attic.  

According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Glenn Holder, the fire started in the closet of the master bedroom. The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly and were able to save some of the woman’s artwork, although several paintings were damaged or destroyed. A financial estimate of the damage was not confirmed.

The woman is staying with her son, Holder said.
