Ore. shooting too familiar for many San Diegans

SAN DIEGO - The images from Roseburg, Oregon, are too familiar for many in San Diego County, as there have been some notable mass shootings in the county in the past 35 years.

Saul Solano Jr. was 11 years old when he lost two of his best friends in the San Ysidro McDonald's massacre in 1984. They were also 11 years old when they died.

On July 18, 1984, a gunman shot 40 people and killed 21. At the time, it was considered the worst one-day massacre in the history of the U.S.

On the 10News Facebook page, he shared his thoughts on Thursday's tragedy and his own experience. He said, in part: "Time does not heal all wounds, sure they will eventually move on and continue with their lives but never will yesterday's events leave their hearts."

On March 5, 2001, tragedy struck Santana High School in Santee when a gunman killed two students and injured 13 others.

The gunman, a teen at the time, was sentenced as an adult to 50 years to life in prison.
