Roller Hockey Team Helps Stop Bar Robbery

Patron Puts Gunman In Headlock, Grabs Gun

Members of a roller hockey team helped stopped three suspects, including a 14-year-old boy with a gun, from robbing a bar in Clairemont Mesa West, police said Wednesday.

The three suspects, 14, 22 and 27, came into the Blarney Stone Pub at 5617 Balboa Avenue Tuesday around 10:30, and the teenager pulled a gun on the bartender, according to San Diego police Sgt. Bob Dare.

One of the patrons put the gunman in a headlock and grabbed the gun, Dare said.

Some members of a roller hockey team struggled with the other two suspects and eventually subdued them and held them for police, Dare said.

No one was seriously hurt, the sergeant said.

The case is being handled by the robbery unit.
