RANCHO SAN DIEGO - An online petition demanding for road barriers began after a 16-year-old boy died Thursday while driving.
El Cajon resident Julian Fraire, 16, was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan south on Steele Canyon Road about 7:30 a.m. Thursday when it drifted into the path of an oncoming 2008 Ford F-450 truck. He later died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The petition asks authorities to install a barrier on Steele Canyon Road—calling the road "dangerous"
The death of Julian comes seven years after another Steele Canyon High student died.
Zachary Jannenberg, 16, died Mar. 20, 2007 when he lost control of the Ford Explorer he was driving to Steele Canyon High in Dulzura.
Grief counselors will be available at Steele Canyon High School on Friday to help the community cope with Julian's death.
