Repairs due to recycled water pipe break blocking lanes on Olympic Parkway in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Two lanes on Olympic Parkway in Chula Vista were closed Friday afternoon as crews worked to repair road damage caused by a broken recycled water pipe.
According to authorities, a 20-inch recycled water pipe broke shortly after 12 p.m. in the 1200 block of Olympic Parkway near Otay Ranch High School.
An Otay Water District official said the pipe is about nine years old. About 1.25 million gallons of recycled water was lost due to the pipe break.
The broken line caused damage to the roadway, forcing authorities to shut down two lanes and the bike lane on westbound Olympic Parkway.
10News learned the repair effort is expected to last through the remainder of the day, and lanes could be back open between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday.
Water officials say the broken line is not affecting customers; the recycled water line is for irrigation purposes.
Anyone from east Chula Vista heading to a concert at Sleep Train Amphitheatre Friday evening is urged to use Telegraph Canyon Road or East Palomar Street.
