Rare lizard left inside a car reported stolen reunites with owner: Bearded dragon found in tow yard

Owner reported car stolen

SAN DIEGO - A rare lizard left inside a car that was reported stolen has been reunited with its owner.

Darius Dio said he was in town for a funeral, and the Hard Rock Hotel would not let in Drako in as a guest, so Dio parked his Lexus on 8th Avenue and Market Street, cracked the windows and said good night.

The next morning, he says his car was gone with Drako inside.

"He's like my buddy," Dio said. "We go everywhere together."

The car was found Wednesday at 4:30 a.m., in the 900 block of 6th Avenue, and taken to a tow yard. Drako was found safe inside the vehicle, 10News learned.

Martin Vazquez of Angelo's Towing thought he was running a routine call.

"I opened the car and I could see the tail only," Vazquez explained. "It was hidden under the dashboard, so I pulled it out and actually the officers started running. It was a very nice lizard."

He seemed to be the right man for the job since he too has owned one.

"I mean, it's kind of exciting though," Vazquez added. "You get more chances I guess to find a dead body inside a car than an exotic animal like this."

"I was just like thank God that he was actually alive," Dio said.
