RAMONA, Calif. - A 50-foot truck hauling cooking oil flipped over on state Route 78 in Ramona Saturday morning, spilling some 100 gallons of oil on the road.
The truck overturned in the highway's westbound lanes near West Haverford Road at about 8:15 a.m. and began leaking shortly after, according to the California Highway Patrol. Both lanes of traffic had to be closed while hazardous material crews cleaned up the spill.
The driver said his load shifted suddenly, causing his vehicle to flip over. He was not seriously injured.
Authorities shut down lanes in both directions about 8:30 a.m., and because of the amount of spilled oil, expect them to remain closed until about 9 p.m., according to the CHP. A SigAlert was issued.
