Pursuit ends in National City; man taken into custody

SAN DIEGO - A pursuit that began near Lindbergh Field and made its way into downtown San Diego ended in National City with one person taken into custody.

A motorist who refused to yield for a traffic stop led officers on a chase from the Lindbergh Field area to National City Tuesday before pulling over and being arrested, authorities reported.

San Diego Harbor Police began pursuing a white Ford Crown Victoria in an area near Pacific Highway and Grape Street just before 4 p.m., and dispatchers said at one point the suspect vehicle was going the wrong way on some downtown streets.

Police cruisers backed off the pursuit as the police helicopter ABLE followed the car from the air.

Minutes later, cruisers began resumed the chase, following the Ford as it entered the National City area.

Police were able to stop the car at Highland Avenue and Plaza Boulevard.

The suspect's name was not immediately available, and it was unclear why officers tried to stop him initially.
