Man suspected of shooting father taken into custody

SAN DIEGO - A man suspected of shooting his father on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation over the weekend has been taken into custody.

Phillip Campbell, 35, allegedly opened fire on the older man about 4:30 p.m. Sunday and then ran off into hilly terrain in the area of Hot Springs Mountain.

The victim was admitted to a hospital, but his condition and prognosis were not released by sheriff's officials. Investigators have disclosed no suspected motive for the shooting.

On Monday, sheriff's deputies from the Ranchita/Warner Springs substation received information from the Los Coyotes tribal police that Campbell was at a residence on the reservation.

Deputies responded to the residence in the 32000 block of Camino Moro, where tribal police had already detained Campbell. Tribal police say Campbell was taken into custody without incident. No weapons were located.

He will be transported to the Vista jail and will be booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
