Prolific tagger, who cost Vista tens of thousands of dollars, gets jail time

Restitution hearing set for March 7

VISTA, Calif. - A young man who committed numerous graffiti crimes in Vista using the name "Selik" was sentenced Tuesday to 270 days in county jail.

Pedro Luis Padilla, 19, pleaded guilty to seven felony vandalism counts. He was originally charged with 38 felony and 28 misdemeanor counts of vandalism.

Padilla was arrested Nov. 18 on suspicion of committing about 470 tagging offenses in Vista in recent months, according to San Diego County sheriff's Deputy Adrian Moses.

The same day Padilla was taken into custody, deputies also arrested a 15-year-old boy at a separate location on suspicion of defacing roughly 460 Vista-area locations under the moniker, "Slik." The underage suspect, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was prosecuted separately.

Moses said that combined, municipal cleanup costs related to both vandalism cases totaled about $275,000. A restitution hearing was set for March 7.
