NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - A pregnant woman was hospitalized Wednesday after a multi-vehicle collision at a National City intersection that may have been caused by street racing.

Witnesses said the crash at Palm Avenue and Division Street happened just after 11 a.m.

According to witnesses, a red Dodge Charger and a gold Dodge Durango were seen speeding towards the intersection, and when the Charger made a left turn at Palm Ave., the Durango tried to do the same but the driver could not control the turn.

The Durango struck a BMW from behind and then collided head-on with a blue PT Cruiser driven by a pregnant woman.

Witnesses said the Durango fled the scene following the wreck.

According to a witness, a Navy sailor in the area followed the two vehicles, but eventually lost them. However, the sailor was able to obtain the license plate numbers of both vehicles.

Kristina Juarez, who is five months into her pregnancy, was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center after complaining of stomach pains. The woman's husband said they were on their way to see a doctor for a check-up and to learn the sex of the baby when the crash occurred.

“I just hope they catch whoever did this,” Victor Juarez said.

His mother-in-law said when they went to the hospital, Victor was also hospitalized because he hit his head in the crash.

Lawrence Crayton witnessed the crash and said he recognized the two cars racing.

“I saw them Sunday night. I’m sitting in my car facing that direction. I saw the same two cars,” Crayton said.

They were racing on Division Street, Crayton said.

“I should have said something the first time I saw them. Like, they were being stupid two days ago, and now this on the same street just two days later,” Crayton said.

Police have not caught them.

“I’m worried. I just want these guys gone, man. That ain’t cool,” Crayton said.

National City police have not yet commented on the crash.
