Poway HS student missing, search underway

POWAY, Calif. - Authorities are looking for an 18-year-old Poway High School senior who has been missing since Wednesday night.

Atticus VanArsdale was last seen at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was supposed to attend a high school graduation rehearsal at Poway High Thursday morning, but he never arrived, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

A command post was set up at the sheriff's department Poway substation at 13100 Bowron Rd., and search-and-rescue personnel searched areas around the teen's home and school through the afternoon with help from a sheriff's helicopter crew.

There were no signs of criminal involvement in Van Arsdale's disappearance, which was being investigated as a "voluntary missing adult" case, Detective Todd Richards said.

VanArsdale is white, stands 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has long dirty-blond hair he generally wears in a ponytail, authorities said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the sheriff's department.
