SAN DIEGO - The cause of the Poinsettia Fire in Carlsbad that erupted on May 14 has not been officially determined, but investigators are looking into the possibility it may have been sparked by smoking at a golf course.
The fire went on to burn 600 acres and destroyed multiple structures, including eight homes.
While investigators continue to look into the cause, the situation brings up questions about smoking on golf courses, especially during dry and hot conditions.
10News contacted dozens of golf courses around San Diego County and found that smoking is allowed at almost all of them, regardless of the fire danger.
Of all the golf courses contacted, Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla said smoking was not allowed, but those who do should be discreet about it.
