SAN DIEGO - According to the latest 10News poll unveiled Tuesday, Democratic Congressman Bob Filner continued to make gains and now has a significant advantage over San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio, a Republican, in the race for mayor.
According to the poll, if the election were to be held Sept. 25, six weeks before early voting begins, Filner would defeat DeMaio 50 percent of the vote to 38 percent. The poll shows 12 percent were undecided.
Compared to 10News' poll last month ago Filner is up 3 points, while DeMaio is down 3 points.
While the race for mayor is non-partisan, DeMaio, a Republican, leads by 36 points among Republicans. Filner, a Democrat, leads by 47 points among Democrats.
Among the findings in the latest poll:
- Filner maintains a 3-point lead over DeMaio among men
- Among women, Filner now leads by 21 compared to the previous 10 points
- Among Hispanics, Filner, who led by 2 in the previous poll, now leads by 15
- Filner previously trailed by 2 among whites, but now leads by 8 points.
