SAN DIEGO - A new 10News/U-T San Diego poll released early Sunday looked at six possible head-to-head matchups between prominent local politicos who may seek to replace San Diego Mayor Bob Filner should he resign.
Among the matchups, former Councilman Carl DeMaio and former Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher effectively tie, with Fletcher at 42 percent and DeMaio at 41.
In another matchup, Councilman Kevin Faulconer and former councilwoman Donna Frye are also close, with Faulconer at 40 percent and Frye at 37 percent.
Faulconer narrowly defeats Council President Todd Gloria, but in that matchup, more than one in three voters are undecided.
The following are results from the other matchups. DeMaio leads Frye by 18 points, 51 percent to 33 percent. Fletcher leads City Attorney Jan Goldsmith by 19 points, 47 percent to 28 percent. DeMaio leads Gloria by 21 points, and Fletcher leads Faulconer by 26 points.
Survey respondents also said that integrity is the most important quality for a new mayor to have, followed by leadership and fiscal responsibility.
