Dog bites woman inside Normal Heights liquor store

Attack at on 3000 block of Adams Avenue

SAN DIEGO - A woman was taken to a hospital Wednesday after police said she was bitten by a dog inside a Normal Heights liquor store.

According to authorities, the mauling occurred at around 10 a.m. inside the Corner Liquors store on 3000 block of Adams Avenue.

Officers told 10News that a homeless man had brought the dog into the store on a chain, and that the German shepherd mix bit a woman who appeared to be about 40 years old.

Witnesses at the scene said the man dragged the dog out of the store by the chain after the attack -- apparently choking the animal -- and that people at the scene intervened to help pull the dog away from the man.

Officers said the man was placed into custody. It's unclear what charges are pending.

According to reports from the scene, the bite victim didn't appear to suffer serious injuries.

The dog was picked up by animal control officers.
