Police: Son stood idly by while father beaten

CHULA VISTA - A man suspected of beating a transient man in his 50s so badly he suffered permanent brain damage was behind bars today, along with the assailant's girlfriend and the victim's son who allegedly stood by and watched, a police sergeant said.

Jeffery Woodfork and his girlfriend, Tanay Jackson, were arrested without incident today on Palm Avenue in San Diego in connection with the assault on Saturday at 350 Broadway in Chula Vista, Chula Vista police Sgt. Miriam Byron said.

The victim's adult son, whose name was not immediately available, was already jailed for unrelated reasons, but Byron said he is expected to face additional charges.

Byron said Jackson and the victim's son watched Woodfork severely beat the victim and did not render any aid. The relationship between Woodfork, Jackson and the victim was not immediately disclosed.

The case was pending submission to the county District Attorney's Office and no further details were available, according to Byron.
