KENSINGTON (KGTV) -- A missing elderly woman with dementia who wandered away from her home early Sunday morning was found safe eight hours later.

Elvira Garcia, 73, was last seen around 1:14 a.m. Sunday in her residence at 4378 43rd Street. She was found around 9 a.m. by a family member about 1-1/2 miles away on El Cajon Boulevard near Interstate 805 in North Park. San Diego police said she was just wandering around.

According to police, Garcia often wanders off but due to her dementia she is unaware of her surroundings and location. Garcia has been located in the past by police and search dogs in North Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Fairmount Avenue by the I-8 on and off ramps.
