ROLANDO PARK, Calif. - A 29-year-old man attempted to rob a gas station but was thwarted by a Taser-wielding owner, and the suspect was arrested on his getaway bicycle.

The attempted commercial robbery occurred at 7:23 a.m. at the Rolando Mart at 6385 University Ave. east of College Avenue, said San Diego Police officer Frank Cali.

"A man was hanging around the Rolando Mart when the owner opened for business and he entered the store and purchased some cigarettes, then simulated a gun and walked around the counter demanding money," Cali said.

"The owner pulled out a Taser and scared the suspect."

Cali said the suspect jumped on a bicycle and fled eastbound on University Avenue. He was apprehended by police in the 6900 block of University Avenue.

The suspect was identified as Dominic Boykin. He was taken into custody and booked into jail for suspicion of attempted robbery, Cali said.

The robbery unit investigated.
