Police say infant found not breathing at South Bay child care center dies

Foul play ruled out, police say

SAN DIEGO - An infant who was not breathing at a South Bay child care center died at the hospital, according to police.

San Diego police responded to a report just after 12:30 p.m. of a 2-month-old boy not breathing at a facility in the 4800 block of Sea Coral Drive in the Ocean Crest area.

The child was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead at 1:26 p.m., police said.

SDPD Lt. Steve Behrendt said it appears to have been a natural death or medically related.

"There is no foul play suspected. It just appears to be a tragic incident," said Behrendt.

Several neighbors told of their trust for the daycare operators.

Twelve-year-old Eldric Thaanlangic, who has been in their care over the years, said, "They're really nice; they've taken care of me a lot and I trust them with my own life ..."

Neighbor Joanna Arceo added, "I don't have any kids, but if I were to have somebody take care of my kid, I would have them. They've always been very welcoming to us."

10News learned the parents of the child were notified and directed to the hospital.
