Police arrest two suspects in robbery of Southcrest beauty salon

SAN DIEGO - Two young men who allegedly robbed patrons and employees at a Southcrest beauty parlor Wednesday while wielding replica guns were arrested a short time later following a foot pursuit and neighborhood search.

The holdup in the 3700 block of National Avenue occurred shortly before 11 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The thieves, who stole wallets and purses from the victims, fled from the business on foot, leaving behind a car they had arrived in, SDPD public affairs Officer Ed Zwibel said.

Officers found one of the suspected robbers, 21-year-old Kendol Alexander, about 11:25 a.m. in a yard in the 4400 block of Logan Avenue and took him into custody. Medics treated him at the scene for a head gash he had suffered while allegedly trying to evade arrest, Zwibel said.

Police located and arrested Alexander's alleged accomplice, Brandon Smith, also 21, at a nearby apartment complex about 20 minutes later.

Officers recovered the two black Airsoft-style plastic-pellet pistols the suspects allegedly were carrying during the robbery, according to Zwibel.
