Detectives sought to determine whether the shooting death of a man at his girlfriend's Point Loma Heights apartment Monday was a suicide, murder or accident.Officers responding to a report of gunfire shortly after 9 a.m. found the 32-year-old man dead inside a ground-floor rental unit at a residential complex in the 3800 block of Midway Drive, according to San Diego police. The renter was not home, though she called several minutes later from a different location and spoke to investigators about the death of her boyfriend, SDPD Lt Kevin Rooney said."Because the (girlfriend had) left the scene, and (due to) the possibility other people also left before officers arrived, the Homicide Unit responded to the scene," the lieutenant said."At this time, it is unclear if the case is a suicide, accidental shooting or homicide," he said. "Detectives are interviewing witnesses and processing the apartment for evidence."The man's name was withheld pending notification of his family.
