CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Police officers in Chula Vista planned to patrol the city's streets Sunday in search of speeding drivers.
Two people were killed in Chula Vista this month in crashes where speed was a primary factor, and police said Sunday's ramped up efforts were to improve traffic safety, prevent injuries and save lives.
Police officials said that the faster a vehicle traveled prior to a crash, the greater the damage that would be caused and the more severe the inflicted injuries.
Police said motorists should obey posted speed limits, allow themselves ample time to reach their destination and accept the possibility they could be late.
Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
