Police: Man tried to rob Papa John's Pizza in Sabre Springs; culprit fled empty handed

SAN DIEGO - San Diego police were on the lookout Friday for a gunman who tried but failed to rob a Papa John's Pizza restaurant in Sabre Springs.

The attempted robbery at 12650 Sabre Springs Parkway was reported at 10:31 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

The would-be robber fled empty handed when he was unable to get any cash, he said without elaboration.

Police described him as black and in his mid-30s, last seen wearing a beanie, a green shirt and jeans. He possibly drove away in a black SUV, Stafford said.
