ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Police on Wednesday are investigating a fatal shooting in Escondido.
The shooting occurred just before 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of McDonald Lane, according to Escondido police.
Neighbors say the victim, who was identified as 36-year-old Brandon Sanchez, was trying to collect rent in a home when an argument turned into gunfire.
10News video showed a photo of a man in handcuffs after police arrived.
Police said another man was also there with Sanchez. 10News spoke with the man's sister.
"My brother started running because he thought he was going to shoot all of them," said neighbor Monica Cook. "He said Brandon was just laying there."
Sanchez's sister told 10News her brother was a recovering addict and police want to know if that played a role.
His father Victor said, "When you lose a son, man… you're in shock."
Further details will be posted as they become available.
