Police investigate fatal stabbing in Chollas Creek

Victim found in 5000 block of Sterling Court

SAN DIEGO - San Diego police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred on a Chollas Creek street early Sunday.

Officers went to the 5000 block of Sterling Court at about 5:34 a.m. on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. They arrived to find the victim, a 34-year-old man, in front of a home suffering from several apparent stab wounds.

Paramedics arrived and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment. He died at the hospital at 7:12 a.m., police said.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the man was involved in a fight in front of one of the homes on Sterling Court. It is unclear who the man was fighting with or why he was fighting. No suspect description is available at this time.

The man has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending family notification. 

The motive for the crime is not known at this time, police said.
