Police said an attempted truck burglary turned into a shooting incident overnight in Scripps Ranch.
A homeowner told 10News that he was moving things in and out of his home to his truck parked in his garage at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, when he came out and found a man inside the cab, rifling through the interior.
The resident said the man in truck saw him and tried to run away, so he chased him.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the chase on the 11000 Block of Olive Knoll Court, extended about 50 feet from the home when the would-be thief stopped, turned to the homeowner and threatened to shoot him.
Officers said the culprit then pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot at the resident, which missed.
The victim ran back into his home and called 911.
Officers responded and searched for the man and shell casings, but found neither.
Several neighbors also called 911 to report hearing the gunshot.
Anyone with information was urged to call San Diego police at 619-531-2204.
