Police Suspect Teen Driver Was Drinking, Took Car From Mother

A 17-year-old girl was taken into custody Wednesday after she drove her parent’s car and crashed it into at least four other vehicles.

According to the National City Police, the girl was drunk when she drove her mother’s Toyota Corolla and took it for a drive in the 1400 block of Q Avenue.

Police received several calls around 1:30 a.m. saying they heard multiple crashes.

An officer with the National City police department spotted the girl in the Toyota and tried to pull her over. She continued driving for at least a block before she finally yielded to the officer.

The passenger side of the Toyota suffered damage from the crashes as well as the side mirror was knocked off.

The girl was arrested by National City police and was released back to her parents.

No injuries were reported.
