Odilon Francisco Alcala, 26, was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash that occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of College and Oceanside boulevards, according to an Oceanside police statement released Tuesday morning.

McCoy was stopped in his vehicle for a red light on eastbound Oceanside Boulevard at College Boulevard when he saw Alcala in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe sideswipe two vehicle stopped for a red light in a turn lane on northbound College Boulevard, said Oceanside police Captain Fred Armijo.

Alcala then allegedly crashed into the rear of a third vehicle, also on College Boulevard, as it was stopped for a red light and waiting to turn west onto Oceanside Boulevard.

When Alcala continued on after the crash, McCoy followed him on College Boulevard for about a half-mile to the 1700 block of Avenida De Suenos, where Alcala and a passenger were detained, Armijo said.

Alcala was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, in addition to hit-and-run, according to the captain.

One person involved in the crash sustained minor injuries, Armijo said without elaboration.

Alcala was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving without a driver's license. Bail was set at $80,000, according to online jail records, which showed Alcala will be arraigned at the Vista courthouse next week.
