An officer with San Diego police saw a vehicle getting on southbound Interstate 5 near First Street at a high-rate of speed around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Other cars that were chasing the vehicle stopped the officer and told him that they were chasing the car because he had just hit a pedestrian.

The officer began to pursue the vehicle at speeds up to 90 mph and ultimately lost sight of the car near the transition ramp from I-5 to eastbound state Route 94.

The injured pedestrian had a leg injury that paramedics were able to treat at the scene.
