SAN DIEGO - Authorities released the name Monday of a Bay Terraces man found shot to death over the weekend in a parked car outside an apartment complex near his home.

A passer-by found the body of Norman Berry, 32, in the 300 block of South Meadowbrook Drive about 8 a.m. Sunday, according to San Diego police.

Berry appeared to have been shot several times, SDPD Lt. Jorge Duran said. A passenger window on the car had at least one bullet hole in it, and another had been completely blown out.

It was unclear when the shooting occurred. Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like gunshots earlier in the morning.

Investigators also were unsure why the victim had gone to the area where he was killed, though he was acquainted with some people who live in the adjacent residential complex.

"Our guess ... is that he was visiting somebody there in those apartments," Duran said.

There were no indications that Berry had been robbed, the lieutenant said.

No suspects were identified as of Monday afternoon.
