Authorities find body in search for missing Poway man: Car belonging to Richard Carter found Tues.

Body has not yet been identified

POWAY, Calif. - Search-and-rescue teams traversing Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in search of a missing person found a man's body Thursday.

The personnel were looking for 55-year-old Richard Carter, of Poway, with service dogs in the nature reserve off Espola Road when they came across the deceased male around midday, according to sheriff's officials. It was not immediately clear if the remains were those of Carter, who disappeared Monday.

Sheriff's officials said Carter's car was found parked at the preserve on Tuesday. Authorities considered him "at risk" because he reportedly had been despondent over family problems.

The county Medical Examiner's Office was called in to take custody of the body for identification and autopsy purposes.
