The ordeal began Sunday after the man allegedly threw a steak knife at his father and broke a car window before leaving the home.

The man, identified by police as 37-year-old Aristoteles Tesoro Afan Jr., came back to his father’s home Monday morning and forced his way inside and locked himself in a bedroom.

The standoff in the 1300 block of Vinca Way was reported shortly before 6 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Jeff Napier.

The stalemate continued until about 7:20 a.m., when police entered the residence and arrested Afan without incident. He was booked into county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $30,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

It was unclear what prompted Afan's alleged violence, SDPD Det. Gary Hassen.said.
