Anthony Sheperd was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of one count of discharging a laser at an aircraft last Friday, according to San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown.

Just after 9:30 p.m., air traffic controllers at Lindbergh Field notified police that someone had pointed a green laser at two commercial airliners near a final approach beacon in the area of Euclid and Imperial avenues, Brown said in a statement.

About a half-hour later, a police helicopter crew flying southbound near Euclid and East Fourth avenues was struck by a green laser. Brown said the laser illuminated the cockpit of the helicopter and the crew took "evasive measures to protect themselves from the danger" posed by the potentially blinding light.

The crew then directed officers on the ground to a residence in the 500 block of South T Avenue in National City, where a small group of people were seated outside. Officers found Sheperd in possession of a green laser pointer and he admitted to pointing it at the police helicopter, Brown said.
