'Play fighting' leads to brawl, stabbing on Fiesta Island

Victim stabbed in back, buttocks, arm

SAN DIEGO - What started out as horseplay in Mission Bay Park escalated into a brawl between several men and one ended up with multiple stab wounds, a police officer said Sunday.

The men were "play fighting" on Fiesta Island about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when it turned violent, San Diego police Officer David Stafford said.

During the altercation that ensued, a man in his mid-20s stabbed a 29-year-old man in his back, buttocks and arm, Stafford said.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital to be treated, Stafford said. His injuries were not considered by police to be life-threatening.

Stafford said the suspected assailant was known to police, but it was unclear if an arrest was made.
