ENCINITAS, Calif. - An Encinitas roadway was closed to traffic for about 90 minutes early Monday as sheriff's bomb and arson experts investigated a suspicious device in a residential neighborhood.

The suspicious device -- initially thought to be a possible pipe bomb -- was discovered near La Costa Avenue and Seabreeze Court just before 6 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

All eastbound lanes of La Costa Avenue were closed. As of 8 a.m., the object was deemed to be harmless and blown up by authorities. The roadway was re-opened shortly after, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
