A local pilot is safe after he survived a crash-landing at a busy park in Chula Vista on Sunday night.

42-year-old Steve Smith’s ultralight plane ran out of fuel causing his engine to stall over Salt Creek Park around 6 p.m.

Smith managed to glide toward the ground but crashed into a grassy embankment when he landed.

Although there were people in the park no one on the ground was injured.

The $10,000 aircraft will be towed away.

We will have a live report of the incident tonight on 10News at 11.
