Phil's BBQ restaurant in Point Loma to undergo renovation: Restaurant closed for 6 weeks

SAN DIEGO - Popular Point Loma barbecue restaurant Phil's BBQ will be closing its doors for six weeks -- starting Dec. 30 -- due to a $1 million renovation.

The restaurant's shutdown is expected to last until Feb. 10, 2014, and in light of the temporary closure, restaurant officials are launching a contest to encourage customers to eat at the San Marcos and Santee Phil's BBQ locations.

The renovation at the Point Loma eatery (3750 Sports Arena Blvd.) includes a kitchen remodel, the installation of new kitchen equipment and upgrades to its bar area.

"One of the factors that's been key to the success of our restaurant has been our efforts to give our customers the highest quality of service possible, and that includes our facilities," said Phil's BBQ owner Phil Pace. "We're committed to re-investing in our restaurants to make sure we continually offer guests the best possible dining experience."

Restaurant officials said some workers at the Point Loma location will receive paid time off during the renovation.

The company's catering service will be open throughout the renovation.
