SAN DIEGO - Crews Wednesday worked to fix a fire hydrant in Pacific Beach after a Pepsi truck barreled into it, sending a stream of water shooting in the air.

The incident was reported at 7:34 a.m. in the 3900 block of Mission Boulevard, according to authorities.

10News received several calls from homeowners in the area who said water from the hydrant flooded their yards.

The truck's driver told 10News he was relying on his back camera as he was reversing, but he said the hydrant was in his blind spot.

Russ Johnson, who is house-sitting for a friend next door, said, "I looked out the kitchen window and saw a fountain."

Water service for the immediate area was shut off 30 minutes later as crews worked to repair the damage.
