FALLBROOK, Calif. - A motorist struck an apparently suicidal pedestrian in Fallbrook Monday, seriously injuring the man, authorities said.

The wreck occurred near the Carl's Jr. restaurant at 1137 S. Mission Road around 12:20 a.m., according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Kevin Menzies.

The man was transported in a fire department helicopter to Palomar Medical Center, where he was expected to undergo surgery for serious injuries, Menzies said.

He appeared to have jumped in front of the motorist's 2004 Nissan Sentra after being involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, Sgt. Paul Lacroix said, adding that the pedestrian was briefly trapped under the sedan.

The motorist, who was not injured, was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and apparently had the right-of-way, according to Menzies.
