Pedestrian seriously hurt in El Cajon hit-run

EL CAJON - A man was struck and seriously hurt in an El Cajon crosswalk late Sunday night.

The victim was pushing a cart with recyclables in a crosswalk of Main Street, at the 1st Street intersection, when he was hit at about 11 p.m., El Cajon police report. The car then fled the scene. The cart was sent flying, leaving dozens of cans and bottles scattered in the road.

The man was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital. His condition was not confirmed.

The suspect vehicle was described as a white Volkswagen with front-end damage and a right front headlight out. A Mossy Nissan license plate frame and part of a side mirror were found at the scene.

Police are searching for the driver.
