SAN DIEGO - Police are looking for the car that struck and killed a man on Interstate 805 in National City overnight Sunday and then left the scene.
According to California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred sometime before 12:15 a.m. Monday on northbound I-805 near Plaza Boulevard.
The suspect vehicle left the scene, but then an SUV traveling on I-805 struck the victim’s body, CHP reports. The SUV contained two men and a child who were driving up from Mexico. They stopped at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
“There’s a potential that he may be a transient, but that’s unknown at this time,” CHP Sgt. Brad Denham said. “We have quite a few transients struck in this section of the freeway.”
The victim’s name was not released. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact CHP at 1-800-835-5247.
