ENCINITAS, Calif. - A passenger train struck and killed a man Tuesday on a stretch of rail near Beacons Beach.
The southbound Amtrak locomotive hit the pedestrian off the 700 block of Vulcan Avenue in Encinitas shortly before 8:30 a.m., sheriff's Deputy Ed Macken said. The victim died at the scene.
The county Medical Examiner's Office was called in to positively identify the deceased man and determine the circumstances of his death.
